Garden Design, Construction & Planting - Godalming, Surrey.

Contemporary porcelain paving meets the English countryside in this large scale project in rural Surrey

The brief was to design a garden for a large new build property on this interesting site in Godalming.
The clients wanted new clean and precise contemporary paving areas near the house to be integrated with the very rural location and the fields beyond.  The garden was completely overgrown prior to the design and landscaping work being undertaken, and the overall aim of the project was to open up the large garden to the land beyond and create a substantial open outdoor space to do the house justice.  This was successfully achieved using a combination of the removal of trees along the boundary, levelling and grading a large and open lawn area whilst adding limited planting areas surrounding and within the paving to bridge the gap between the nature beyond and man-made materials. Sweeping curves and a long border were used to draw the eye from the developed areas around the house to the landscape beyond, and a deliberately open chestnut fence along the rear boundary allowed views to the field beyond whilst maintaining security.  We also installed over 400m2 of wildflower meadow in the shade under the existing cedar tree, which created a spectacular and diverse habitat for wildlife, with bird feeders dotted throughout the beds to draw across the garden.
